According to a report in the Tri-City Herald about $1 million in federal stimulus money will go to support public housing in the Tri-Cities, Sen. Patty Murray announced Tuesday. The money, part of the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act that became law last month, is intended to create jobs and help struggling families by improving public housing sites, a news release from Murray’s office said. The money includes $376,000 for the Kennewick Housing Authority and $632,000 to the Housing Authority of the City of Pasco and Franklin County. Information on how the money will be used wasn’t available.

The City of Richland offers the Affordable Homebuyer Assistance Program (HAP) to qualified low to moderate-income, first-time homebuyer(s) who are in need of financial assistance to help purchase a home in Richland. These programs include:
Down Payment Assistance Program: $4,000
Infill Homeownership Gap Assistance: up to $24,000
Infill Homeownership Gap Assistance for Disabled Borrowers: $24,000
For a limited time there is an additional $6,000 grant available to use in combination with one of the City’s homebuyer programs. (other qualifications apply and a minimum contribution is required by borrower)
Please review the program qualifications carefully. Funds are limited for these programs and funding could change at any time. The City of Kennewick put out a press release that they have temporarily suspended their Down Payment Assistance/GAP Program. According to the program Administrator they simply don’t have the manpower at this time to facilitate the program. We will keep you updated if they bring this great program back for First Time Home Buyers.
